CHILDREN'S    SELF-ESTEEM

Teachers sometimes put all of their focus on your child's Academic needs and neglect to help them with their self-esteem.  Nowadays with Bullying issues being so prevalent our Teachers need to be concerned that they are addressing issues like this in the classroom.  A young child's self - esteem is so important to develop good feelings about themselves that will hopefully follow them through their lives.  Instilling how important it is for them to feel good about themselves and to treat each other the way they would like to be treated.

EXPECTATIONS  OF  YOUR  

CHILD

Don't get caught up in expecting your child to compare to your neighbor's, relative, or even comparing your siblings.  A child is an individual and should be treated as one.  The same goes for in the classroom when your child's Teacher might make a comment that your child is not where the majority of the class is.  Be concerned ONLY that your child is being met exactly where they are academically.  That they are getting the skills that THEY need whether or not it is what the majority of the class needs.

TEACHERS  HELPING  STUDENTS

A great Teacher will help your child find and learn new academic skills, find their missing homework paper or pencil.  They will also help and encourage them with feeling confident while learning these new skills.  Reassuring them that they might not get it the first time, but your child's Teacher will work with your child until they attain full knowledge of the skill.  When a student knows that their Teacher is concerned about them they will feel the positive attitude and it helps make it easier for them to attain their skills.

B O O K S

Encouraging students to read that are reluctant readers you should entice them with subject matter that interests them.  Reading to your class on a daily basis is something that you should always do at the Elementary School level.  In the earlier years picture books and when the students are a bit older novels that they should really like.  Discussing the books with your students, as you read them, is an integral part.  Having them have a say when they are older, in which novel they would prefer for you to read them entices them.  Especially for the students who aren't avid readers it makes them more invested in what you are reading.  Having a nice library within the classroom stocked with a variety of different reading choices is paramount for enticing your students to read, also.

A  TEACHER'S  PROMISE

When a Teacher applies for their Teaching Certification they should take these words as a pledge to carry out everyday when they are Teaching.  I like to say at the end of a school day tell me one thing that you were taught and/or learned today in class.  It could be something academic or socially, but they should be aware of something that they can take away from the school day that had an impact on them.  Teaching from your heart shows the children how important that they are to you and makes them respond in a more positive way.
