Having this sign in your classroom and/or the entrance of the school you teach in is such a great idea.  Having a student identify with positive attributes makes them feel good about themselves.  When they have a good feeling of self-worth they are able to perform better in their academics.

Your child is unique and has their own personal characteristics.  It is okay if they dress a little weird, are very athletic, hate to read, and are a non-stop talker.  Emphasis their positive attributes and try to ignore the ones that might drive you a little crazy.  Let them develop their own personality.  Just make sure they are NOT the mean child or the bully.

Contemplating what to get your child for the holidays is always a tricky thing.  They might ask for a zillion things and, of course, you don't want them to be disappointed.  On the other hand are they going to enjoy sooooo many things or will they be happy with just some of the items. They should be happy with whatever they get.  For the older child if you aren't quite sure what they really want a gift card is a great choice.  Let them go and pick out exactly what they want.  Remember the saying above AND DON'T STRESS over it.

Your child might be having some difficulty with some academic skills or perhaps just one.  They don't want to be hounded every time with what they are doing wrong.  They would much more appreciate hearing things like I see how hard you are working,  you basically are understanding it, but let me help you out a little bit here.  Positive comments resonate so much better especially when you are struggling to understand something.

TEACHERS have the most important job of making sure their students get the skills to do any job they want to do in the future.  Many will change their decisions of what they want to be, quite often, to suit different ages and/or events in their life.  The ultimate conclusion should be the one that they are most passionate about.  There is nothing more satisfying then having a job that you truly love.

That time of the year when your children and students have one thing on their minds what they want as gifts.  The above form is a great one to use with children of all ages.  If they can't write or read yet you can read the questions and listen to their answers.  Older ones can, of course, read and answer the questions.  It is so important that they NOT only think of themselves but also something for everyone in the family.  Showing them that it is nice to receive BUT it is also great to be able to give gifts.

When your child's teacher tells them that they believe in them, that is the positive gift any sudent can receive.  It shows your child that their teacher is really invested in them and wants them to succeed.  It reassures them that they can depend on their teacher for any help they might need and they shouldn't be afraid to ask any questions.

Asking your students to talk or write about being THANKFUL for  things is a challenge for most of them. Some prodding and good discussions of the topic are required for most of them.  With careful thought there are many things, that no matter what economic ladder their parent(s) are on, they can come up with.  Stopping to think what you are THANKFUL for, at any age, is a good reflecting time for all.

You are teaching a new skill to your class when all of a sudden you hear someone say,  "THIS IS TOO HARD".  That is okay because you are growing your knowledge and expanding your brain development.  Pretty soon with confidence and putting your right foot forward you will know that skill.  Then it is not hard anymore and you have made a big accomplishment.

A Teacher has a certain curriculum to teach to their classes.  Some of the students will understand the new concepts right away by the preferred method of teaching them.  Some will get it in a day or two.  Then you have a few students that just could not grasp what you were teaching.  Don't let them agonize and suffer repeating the same method.  Teach it to them using another method and perhaps it will make more sense to them.  As long as they learn the skill it doesn't matter how it is taught.  Just remember that NOT every student learns in the same way.

Children need rules to follow and on the other hand they need their space to be able to explore and make some of their own decisions.  If they try and don't succeed the first time it becomes a great learning situation.  Everyone learns so much from the mistakes they make.  It makes them stronger and encourages independency.

Such a wonderful time of year for some neat TRICK-OR-TREATING & dress-up in costumes full of imagination.  In the classroom there are so many awesome ways to incorporate the holiday theme in math problems, spelling words, the history of the holiday. some cool science experiments, writing and reading stories-- you have the whole gamut.  You have covered every subject in a unique way and really have captured your students attention in a fun way.

Your child needs to be taught that  "positivity" is the most healthful route in school and outside of it.  Seeing the good in things and by changing their attitude can make such a big result in the right direction.

GROWTH   MINDSET

A new term for your child in terms of education "GROWTH MINDSET".  Encouraging thoughts to incorporate in teaching students that they can grow their brain easier when they believe that with the right effort and strategies learning becomes easier.  If by chance they make a mistake that is fine because they can become better at learning that material.  So many students are afraid to do a new skill because they don't want to make a mistake.  To be able to encourage them to try and do the best and if they do make a mistake that is a-okay because we have erasers for that purpose.

What a cute poster to teach your child what the punctuation marks stand for.  Using a sentence showcasing the punctuation used correctly.  Then you can have your child makeup sentences and apply the cute punctuation marks depicted with a facial expression to closeout the sentence correctly.

A Teacher should be that person in the classroom that exudes positive vibes for her students.  She should create the atmosphere where students feel comfortable enough to show their feelings just the same as the Teacher.  A Teacher that can have serious as well as funny moments in the classroom shows the students that she is really invested in them.

You teach your class a new skill and you hear a student say, "I cannot do this it is too hard."  "Yes, you can and you will learn it perhaps not today but it will make sense to you soon."  Have your student express all of the things that they can do.  Then ask them if they were all easy to learn.  They will be able to see all of things they are  capable of doing and how some of them might have been challenging to learn, but they did eventually understand them.  Always have them be aware of all of the positives and not to concentrate on the negatives.

AREA

Giving a student their own homework area that is nice and cheery is a great idea.  Having them help in choosing the items they want in  the area makes the place extra SPECIAL for them.  Having everything they need in one place so they do not need to be disrupted finding items helps them in doing their homework.  Have them be responsible for letting you know when they need to replenish an item.  

MAGICAL  TEACHING

MOMENTS

For some students no matter how you teach the material they can comprehend it right away.  You get that WOW moment right away.  Some other students may need a different way of teaching the skill, because the first way just doesn't make sense to them.  So for them, you use your patience, and choose the method that will work the best for their learning needs.  When you get that look in their eyes that they fully understand or they say, "NOW I UNDERSTAND IT."  It makes you both feel so-so good.

Every student in a classroom should feel like they accomplished something that can be celebrated each day.  It could be a great grade, a great act of kindness, getting their work finished, sharing with a classmate, no tattling, cleaning up, etc..  There is always something that a Teacher can acknowledge.  It is far better to make a big thing about positive actions than complaining about negative ones.

Making every student in your classroom feel important is a crucial step in bonding with them and giving them the opportunity to feel comfortable in your class.  When they know that they are respected and you fully believe in them to achieve you are setting the scene for positive results.  Knowing that mistakes are okay as long as they are all trying.  Not everything is going to be easy but when you make your students feel that they are capable of learning they will try harder.

GRAMMAR  RULES

Teaching grammar rules to students can be very trying and upsetting to both the Teacher and students. You teach a rule and the next sentence your student reads finds a word that doesn't follow the rule you just got finished teaching.  Such is the above rule for, "i before e except after c." There are always exceptions that is why we always have to learn to spell each individual word.

B E S T ??????

Your child comes home from school and tells you that so and so is able to have everyone at recess play the game they want to play and your child doesn't want to.  Someone has on a new pair of sneakers  that they like better than the pair they have.  They have a friend that is not being nice to them because they aren't in the same reading group anymore.  It is time to share the above saying with them to make then feel SPECIAL just the way they are.  Talk about the positive things that have happened during the school day instead of dwelling on the negative things so that the positive items stand out more for your child.

RULES

A-Z alphabet rules, not your usual set of rules that students are accustomed to seeing.  What a great set for every student to have read to them or having them read themselves.  Also, using the phrases to have the students explain what they mean to them.  Great learning experience for a teacher or parent to do with their child for the beginning of the school year.

PAINTED      ROCKS

How cute and clever are these painted rocks of school time materials.  If that doesn't get you excited with all of the back-to-school supplies you have to purchase for each child or children in your family I don't know what will??!!??  Each Teacher making out their own individual supply list and it just has to be that way, because you can believe it that your child will come home that first day of school and say MRS.  Materials said that we had to have three colored folders in blue, red, and yellow.  Of course you got three colored folders in blue, orange, and yellow.    That is how the school year starts off.  It will be a GREAT SCHOOL YEAR anyhow, know matter what color it will be.

Setting your child's attitude for a big year of exciting things to come,  shortly, is getting them in the right mind set of thinking positively for the beginning of the school year.  Letting them help in choosing their own school and lunch bag, folders, pencils and everything else they need makes them feel important.  They will be able to take to school what they have chosen and they get to feel entitled with them.  Planning for the upcoming school year should always be in a positive light.  If your child is hesitant or has negative feelings now is the time to start working on conversations to distinguish these and make it a happy experience.

TANTRUMS

You have a student in your classroom or a child of your own who has a tendency to throw tantrums which you are having trouble controlling.  Be aware that they aren't directed at you but they have a deeper meaning to your child.  The way you are interpreting them might not be what your student or child is intending them to come across to you to fully understand what is bothering them.    When your student or child is NOT having a tantrum and you can sensibly have a discussion with them try to have them relate to you what is bothering them when they do have a tantrum.  By taking the time to have a discussion like this you might be better equipped to deal with stopping a tantrum from even happening.

R  E  A  D  I  N  G

Reading is such an important tool to excel in during your child's academic journey.  Having your child start off on the right foot when approaching phonics skills, which is the backbone of an excellent reading program, is the integral part of the reading program.  When the phonics is taught by someone who has professional knowledge of the program it is so important.  Being proficient with phonics give students the tools to sound out any new word they approach and that is magical.

A great saying above that compares popcorn to children or yourself that no matter how many kernels there are they ALL don't POP at the same time.  That has the same indications when you look at your child's growth whether comparing them to their other siblings, to their friends, or their classmates.   They will POP when the time is right for them to be able to do what is presented to them.  Some will POP sooner, the same time, or way after another one.  Do NOT worry about it just keep positive and always be encouraging.

Art is such an amazing subject that enables each student to show their own unique way of expressing things.  It can be done in drawing or coloring a picture, to making or creating something, or in writing an amazing story.  It gives them the opportunity of expressing themselves without so many boundaries.

THE   SUMMER   SLIDE

Any Teacher will tell you that at least the first month back to school they will spend that time reviewing skills that should have been accomplished during the previous school year.  Very few students in the class do not need this review but the majority do.  Some students have slid so far back that they need to be retaught certain skills completely.  

So to help your child not be a "summer slider" having them see a Tutor during the summer or part of the summer to review skills with your child so that they do not have a problem starting out the school year.  If they accomplish reviewing all of the skills the Tutor can even introduce them to some of the new skills they will have when the school year starts.

TEACHER'S    INFLUENCE

A Teacher's influence is important to a student as well as for their parents.  A Teacher needs to encourage students as well as their parents.  Many times a parent will be disappointed because their child is not doing as well as another student in their class.  A nice way to put a parent at ease in this situation is saying we can't force a child to get older or grow taller, so we can't rush other aspects of their development.  Things will happen in their own time and we have to be okay with that.  Just enjoy  each phase of  their childhood.

Hope your child had a very worthwhile school year.  Now is when all schedules change and things become more casual.  Children love the freedom they feel when they know the school year is over.  Let them relax and take all the pressure off from the school year.  After a couple of weeks they should get on the bandwagon and start reading books on their reading level.  If your child had some academic difficulty during the school year now is the time to think of getting your child a Tutor too help them achieve mastery on their previous years academic skill.
